- Paul Greengrass
Paul Greengrass
Much like Stanley Kubrick, Paul Greengrass began his career in documentary film, with a special affinity for espionage. He cowrote the expose Spycatcher before moving into television directing. But he was first noticed in the US for the uncompromising drama Bloody Sunday, which uses documentary-style photography to put audiences smack in the middle of the 1972 Irish-English conflicts. That same style would make Matt Damon an action hero in the two Bourne sequels, and would lend a human element to every person aboard United 93, terrorist and victim alike. These films combined led Manohla Dargis of the New York Times to say "There’s no one in Hollywood right now who does action better."
